Bengaluru Man Kills Wife, Stuffs Body in Suitcase, Confesses to In-Laws

Bengaluru police have arrested a man named Rakesh for allegedly murdering his wife, Gauri Anil Sambekar, and stuffing her body into a suitcase before fleeing to Pune. The 32-year-old victim was found dead in their Doddakannahalli home after Rakesh confessed to her parents over a phone call. He was tracked down using call detail records (CDR) and detained by Pune police on March 27, 2025.

Rakesh and Gauri, both originally from Maharashtra, had been living in Bengaluru for two months. On March 26, a heated argument escalated, leading Rakesh to stab Gauri in the stomach and slit her throat, as per police sources. He then packed her body into a suitcase, left it in the bathroom, and fled to Pune. Gauri, a mass media and communication graduate, was unemployed, while Rakesh worked as a project manager at Hitachi.

The crime came to light after Rakesh called Gauri’s parents and confessed. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Sarah Fathima said, “When our Hulimavu police inspector reached the house, it was locked. After gaining entry, they found a suitcase in the bathroom with a woman’s body bearing injury marks.” Using CDR, police traced Rakesh to Pune, where he was arrested, and a team has been sent to bring him back for questioning.

DCP Fathima clarified, “The body was not cut into pieces; it was intact. The exact nature of injuries will be confirmed after the postmortem report.” The couple reportedly had frequent arguments, with Gauri allegedly assaulting Rakesh during fights, which may have contributed to the motive. The investigation continues to uncover further details surrounding the incident.

Rakesh is being brought back to Bengaluru for further interrogation as police work to establish the full motive behind the murder. The postmortem report is expected to provide clarity on Gauri’s injuries, potentially aiding the investigation. Authorities are also likely to examine the couple’s history of disputes to understand the circumstances leading to the crime.
