Lalu Prasad Yadav Hospitalised In Patna Due To High Sugar Levels

Former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, 76, was rushed to Paras Hospital in Patna on Wednesday after his health took a turn for the worse due to high blood sugar levels. The veteran leader, en route to Patna airport for a scheduled flight to Delhi, is now likely to be airlifted to AIIMS, Delhi, for advanced treatment via an air ambulance.

Lalu Prasad’s condition deteriorated while he was heading to catch an Air India flight at 4:05 pm. Sources close to the family revealed that a spike in his blood sugar levels triggered complications, prompting immediate hospitalization. The RJD supremo has been battling multiple health issues, including heart ailments, for years.

Following his admission to Paras Hospital, arrangements are underway to shift Lalu Prasad to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. Sources confirmed that an air ambulance is being prepared to ensure swift transfer for specialized care, given his critical condition.

RJD leader Bhai Virendra addressed the media outside the hospital, urging calm. “We knew his blood pressure and sugar levels were fluctuating. He is going to Delhi for a check-up and will return soon. There’s no need to worry. The blessings of 13 crore Biharis are with him,” he said, highlighting Lalu’s enduring political legacy.

Lalu Prasad’s medical history includes significant interventions. In 2024, he underwent angioplasty at Mumbai’s Asian Heart Institute, following a six-hour aortic valve replacement surgery in 2014 at the same facility. In July 2024, he was admitted to AIIMS, Delhi, after a health scare. His most notable procedure was a kidney transplant in Singapore in December 2022, with his daughter Rohini Acharya as the donor.

The socialist leader, known for his mass appeal, is currently out on bail on medical grounds, serving sentences in multiple fodder scam cases. Additionally, Lalu Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi, and son Tejashwi Yadav face allegations in the land-for-jobs case, linked to his tenure as Railway Minister.

Despite his health challenges, Lalu remains a towering figure in Bihar politics. His quirky style and grassroots connect have kept him relevant, even as he navigates legal and medical hurdles. The RJD continues to rally behind him ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
