Tej Pratap’s Wife Aishwarya Roy Calls His Expulsion from RJD

In a sharp response to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav expelling his elder son Tej Pratap Yadav from the party, Tej Pratap’s estranged wife Aishwarya Roy on Monday dismissed the move as a “poll season drama” and a calculated eyewash to mislead voters ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.

Speaking to the media, Aishwarya said the father-son duo were “in cahoots” and accused them of orchestrating a fake fallout to gain sympathy and rebuild their image.

“They are in cahoots. It is a poll season drama enacted by the family. I am sure he will be taken back to the party once the Assembly elections are over,” Roy stated.

Her remarks came a day after Lalu Yadav announced that Tej Pratap was being suspended from the RJD for six years due to “irresponsible conduct” and deviation from the party’s core values. The action followed Tej Pratap’s revelation on Facebook that he had been in a relationship with a woman named Anushka Yadav for the past 12 years.

Lalu Yadav posted on social media that the decision was taken to uphold the party’s moral standards, saying, “Ignoring moral values in personal life weakens our collective fight for social justice.”

Tej Pratap later claimed that his Facebook account had been hacked and the post was manipulated to malign his image and that of his family.

Aishwarya, however, was unsparing in her criticism. “Somebody ask them, why did they ruin my life? Where was this social justice when these people beat me up? Ask them what my future is going to be like,” she said, referring to her past allegations of domestic abuse against her estranged husband and in-laws.

Tej Pratap’s marriage to Aishwarya Roy — granddaughter of former Bihar CM Daroga Rai and daughter of ex-minister Chandrika Roy — collapsed within months in 2018, leading to a protracted legal battle. Her father left the RJD in protest, vowing to seek justice for his daughter politically and legally.

Background:

  • Tej Pratap Yadav and Aishwarya Roy married in 2018; the marriage broke down shortly after.
  • Aishwarya accused Tej Pratap and his family of harassment.
  • The divorce case remains pending in court.
  • Lalu’s action came after Tej Pratap’s social media post on a 12-year relationship with another woman.
  • Tej Pratap claims the post was fabricated by hackers.
