Ajaz Khan, Producer Booked Over ‘House Arrest’ Show After Viral Clip Sparks Obscenity Row

Actor Ajaz Khan and producer Rajkumar Pandey were booked by Mumbai Police on Friday over alleged obscene content in the web reality show House Arrest, following a viral video clip that showed Khan instructing contestants to mimic sex positions. The FIR was filed after a complaint by Bajrang Dal activist Gautam Ravriya.

The controversial show was streamed on the Ullu App and has since been removed from the platform.

An official from Amboli police station confirmed that a case has been registered against Khan, Pandey, and other persons associated with the streaming platform.

“Based on a complaint lodged by Gautam Ravriya, an activist of Bajrang Dal, the police registered a case against actor Ajaz Khan, producer Rajkumar Pandey of the House Arrest web show and other persons from Ullu app,” the official said.

The viral video triggered outrage online and drew sharp criticism from political leaders and social media users, many of whom called for action against the show’s creators.

Following the controversy, Ullu App removed the show from its platform. A search for House Arrest on the platform now displays: “Your search for ‘House Arrest’ did not find any matches.”

The move came after mounting criticism and pressure from civil society and political quarters.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) took suo motu cognizance of the viral clip and summoned Ajaz Khan and Vibhu Agarwal, CEO of Ullu App. In a statement, NCW condemned the platform for “promoting vulgarity and violating consent”.

“The portrayal of women in such a manner is unacceptable. We have summoned the concerned persons for an explanation,” the Commission stated.

Maharashtra BJP MLC Chitra Wagh also weighed in, demanding an immediate ban on the show. “Ajaz Khan, who calls himself an actor, has created a show called House Arrest, which is nothing but the epitome of obscenity,” she said. Wagh also warned that such content is harmful to children and society at large.

According to the police, the accused have been charged under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

House Arrest is a reality web show hosted by Ajaz Khan on the Ullu App, known for its adult-themed content. The platform has previously faced criticism for allegedly breaching content guidelines.

The controversy comes at a time when content regulation on OTT platforms remains a contentious issue, with growing calls for clearer legal frameworks to govern digital media.
