Diljit Dosanjh Likely To Be Dropped from Border 2 Over 'Sardaar Ji 3' Row: Sources

Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh has reportedly been removed from the upcoming, highly anticipated war film ‘Border 2’. The decision follows a significant controversy over his new film, ‘Sardaar Ji 3’, which features Pakistani actor Hania Aamir. Sources close to the production suggest that actor Ammy Virk is now being considered for the role.

This development comes after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) strongly demanded Dosanjh’s removal from the patriotic film. However, the producers of ‘Border 2’ have not yet made an official announcement regarding the cast change.

According to a source the decision was made keeping the film’s theme in mind. “Given ‘Border 2’ focusses on the Indian Army, the makers felt the Punjabi actor’s presence would not be suitable. They also did not want the entire controversy to dilute the film and its promotions,” the source revealed. It was also suggested that the team plans to re-shoot the portions that had already been filmed with Dosanjh.

The controversy stems from the casting of Hania Aamir in ‘Sardaar Ji 3’, which has not been released in India due to the backlash. Film industry bodies, particularly FWICE, have taken a strong stance, issuing a “non-cooperative directive” against Dosanjh and urging producers to boycott him.

FWICE President BN Tiwari commented on the unconfirmed reports of the replacement, stating that while the makers have not officially informed the body, “it’s the only way out.” He added, “If the team continues to shoot with Diljit, that would show how they are supporting his cause.”

The pressure from the film federation has been immense, with letters being sent to ‘Border 2’ co-producer T-Series and producer Nidhi Dutta, urging them to reconsider their casting choice in light of national sentiment.

While reports of his ouster are strong, there has been no official word from Diljit Dosanjh, Ammy Virk, or the production houses involved.
