TV Star Dipika Kakar Diagnosed with Stage 2 Cancer, Says “I Will Sail Through This”
Television actor and Bigg Boss 12 winner Dipika Kakar has been diagnosed with stage 2 liver cancer, she revealed on social media Tuesday, urging fans to keep her in their prayers as she begins treatment.
Kakar, known for her iconic role in Sasural Simar Ka, said the diagnosis came after she experienced persistent stomach pain. A subsequent medical investigation revealed a tumour the size of a tennis ball in her liver, which was confirmed to be malignant.
“As you all are aware, the last few weeks have been quite difficult for us… walking into the hospital for a pain in the upper area of my stomach… and then finding out it’s a tennis ball-sized tumour in the liver… and then finding out that the tumour is second-stage malignant (cancerous),” she wrote in a heartfelt Instagram post.
“I am all positive and determined to face this and walk out stronger, InshAllah! With my entire family being by my side… and all the love and prayers pouring in from all of you, I will sail through this too!” she said.
Fans and celebrities alike flooded the comments section with messages of support, wishing her strength and a speedy recovery.
Dipika Kakar, who became a household name with her portrayal of Simar in Sasural Simar Ka, gained further prominence after winning Bigg Boss 12 in 2018. She married co-star Shoaib Ibrahim the same year. The couple welcomed their first child in 2023.
The announcement has shocked fans and the television community, many of whom have been following her health journey closely through her and her husband’s social media channels.
Kakar’s diagnosis comes at a time when public health awareness around early cancer detection is rising in India. According to the World Health Organization, early detection and timely treatment significantly improve survival rates in many cancer types.
While the actor has asked for privacy during this time, she has also promised to keep her well-wishers informed as she progresses through treatment.
