‘You Are Born In India’ Guru Randhawa’s Cryptic Post Amid Diljit Dosanjh’s Film Backlash

A cryptic social media post by singer Guru Randhawa appears to have taken a veiled swipe at Diljit Dosanjh, who is currently facing intense backlash over his upcoming film ‘Sardaar Ji 3’, which co-stars Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. While Randhawa did not name anyone, the timing of his posts has led fans and social media users to link his comments directly to the ongoing controversy surrounding Diljit.
The controversy stems from the promotion of ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. Although the film was completed before the attack, many have questioned the timing of its promotion and the inclusion of a Pakistani artist in the current tense climate.
Adding to the debate, Guru Randhawa took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday and wrote in Punjabi, “Even if one becomes a complete foreigner, one must never betray their own country.” He added in English, “Even if now your citizenship is not Indian but you were born here, please remember this… Please be proud of where you were born. Just an advice.”
This followed another pointed post from Wednesday where he commented on artists and their PR teams. “When the PR team is more talented than the Talent itself, controversies become part of Daily routine… God Bless the Fake PR and the artists,” he wrote.
These posts are being widely seen as a reference to the Canadian-citizen Diljit Dosanjh and the Sardaar Ji 3 row.
Amid the growing outrage, the film’s producers issued a statement clarifying that the movie was shot “well before the prevailing situation” and no Pakistani artist was engaged after the Pahalgam attack.
Diljit himself addressed the issue in a recent interview with BBC Asian Network, explaining the difficult circumstances. “When this film was made, the situation was fine. We shot this in February. Then a lot of things happened which were beyond our control,” he said. “The producers knew that the film would not release in India, and so they decided to release it overseas. A lot of money is at stake.”
He added that he supports the producers’ decision to release the film abroad, given that the situation is no longer in their hands. ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ is now slated for an overseas-only release on June 27.
