In a heart-wrenching incident near Paranda railway station in Pachora, Jalgaon, Maharashtra, at least 11 passengers lost their lives on Wednesday when they jumped off the Pushpak Express, mistakenly thinking there was a fire, only to be struck by the oncoming Karnataka Express. Several others were injured in the chaos and have been rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment.

The tragedy unfolded as passengers panicked due to unconfirmed rumours of a fire, leading to an alarm chain pulling incident on the Pushpak Express. According to railway officials, there might have been smoke from a hot axle, which could have sparked the confusion. The exact cause of the panic is still under investigation, but the immediate response from authorities has been swift.

Nashik Divisional Commissioner Praveen Gedam confirmed the grim toll, stating, “11 people have died in the accident, and 5 others are injured. The spot has seen a significant emergency response, with 8 ambulances and several railway rescue vans dispatched.” Coordination between the District Collector, DRM (Divisional Railway Manager), and other officials is ensuring that all possible assistance is promptly provided.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his grief over the incident on X, ensuring that the state government is closely monitoring the situation. He commended the efforts of local administration and confirmed that eight ambulances, along with emergency equipment like glass cutters and floodlights, have been mobilized. Hospitals in the vicinity, both general and private, are on high alert to treat the injured.

The incident has raised questions about railway safety and the communication of emergencies to passengers, urging a thorough investigation into how misinformation can lead to such devastating outcomes.
