11-Year-Old Deaf-Mute Girl Raped in UP’s Rampur, Suffers Horrific Injuries

An 11-year-old deaf and mute Dalit girl was brutally raped in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur, found unconscious with cigarette burns and bite marks on her body. Police arrested a suspect after a shootout.

The girl, discovered half-naked in a field on Wednesday, bore multiple injuries, including cigarette burns on her private parts and bite marks. Dr. Anju Singh, who conducted the medical examination, called it “one of the most horrific sexual crimes” she had witnessed. Police arrested 24-year-old Dan Singh, a village resident, after an encounter where he was shot in the leg.

“This is a clear case of rape by one or more persons,” Dr. Singh told The Times of India. “Her face was swollen from blunt force trauma.”

The girl’s clothes were blood-stained, and she was referred to Meerut for advanced treatment. Her mother reported the child suffering fits and extreme terror post-incident. “My daughter is extremely terrified,” the mother said, highlighting the psychological toll.

The victim, daughter of a marginal farmer, went missing Tuesday evening after stepping out to a field. A villager found her unconscious 500 meters from home.

Police registered an FIR under rape and POCSO Act charges based on the father’s complaint. Three teams were deployed, using CCTV footage and mobile data to track the suspect. “We acted swiftly, sending the survivor for treatment,” said Additional SP Atul Kumar Srivastava.

Dan Singh fired at police during the arrest attempt, leading to retaliatory firing. He is under interrogation for possible accomplices.

Uttar Pradesh has faced scrutiny for crimes against women and minors, with 86 rapes reported daily in India in 2021, per NCRB data. Rampur, in particular, has seen similar cases, including a 2019 gang rape of a deaf-mute teen. The incident has sparked outrage on X, with users demanding justice.

Police are probing if others were involved, with CCTV analysis ongoing. The girl remains under medical care, and her family seeks justice. “We will ensure the culprit faces strict punishment,” said Rampur SP Vidya Sagar Mishra.
