18.66 Lakh Dead Among 52.3 Lakh ‘Missing’ Voters In Bihar, Says Election Commission

An ongoing special revision of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar has uncovered over 52.3 lakh problematic entries, including a staggering 18.66 lakh deceased individuals still listed as voters, the Election Commission of India (ECI) revealed on Tuesday.
The massive clean-up exercise is being conducted ahead of the state’s Assembly elections, which are likely to be held around October-November this year.
In a statement, the poll body detailed the findings of its special intensive revision (SIR) drive. Out of 7.90 crore registered electors in the state, a total of 52.30 lakh voters (6.62%) could not be found at their registered addresses.
This list includes 18.66 lakh deceased voters, 26 lakh voters who have permanently shifted their residence, and 7.50 lakh duplicate entries where voters are enrolled in multiple places. Another 11,484 voters were found to be untraceable.
The ECI stated that its machinery, comprising nearly 1 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and volunteers from major political parties, has so far covered 97.30% of the electors through door-to-door enumeration.
To ensure transparency, the lists of the missing voters and the 21.35 lakh electors who have not yet submitted their forms have been shared with all political parties. The deadline for submitting the enumeration forms to be included in the draft roll is July 25.
The draft electoral roll will be published on August 1, following which the public will have a full month, until September 1, to file any claims or objections regarding additions, deletions, or rectifications.
