5 Indian Soldiers Killed in Operation Sindoor, Confirms Army

Five Indian soldiers were killed in Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army confirmed on Sunday during a tri-services press briefing led by senior military commanders.

The Indian Army on Sunday confirmed that five personnel were killed during Operation Sindoor, the tri-services military operation launched in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attacks.

Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, stating, “I pay my solemn homage to my five fallen colleagues and brothers from the armed forces and civilians who tragically lost their lives in Operation Sindoor. Their sacrifices shall always be remembered.”

Lt Gen Ghai reiterated India’s policy of strategic restraint while emphasizing the nation’s resolve to protect its sovereignty. “Our actions were focused, measured and non-escalatory,” he said. “However, any threat to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and safety of our citizens will be met with decisive force.”

Operation Sindoor was launched following the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 civilians were killed by Pakistan-based terrorists.

Sunday’s briefing, which provided official details of Operation Sindoor, was jointly addressed by top military officials: Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai (Army), Air Marshal Awadhesh Kumar Bharti (Air Force), Vice Admiral AN Pramod (Navy), and Major General SS Sharda.

The operation targeted nine terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, resulting in over 100 terrorist casualties, including those linked to the IC-814 hijacking and Pulwama attack.

The May 7 terror strike in Pahalgam led to immediate calls for a strong military response. India’s air, naval, and ground forces coordinated precision strikes on terror camps in Bahawalpur, Muridke, and other key locations deep inside Pakistani territory.

The operation was designed to avoid civilian harm while delivering a powerful message against cross-border terrorism.

While the loss of lives cast a somber note, the Indian military emphasized continued vigilance and operational readiness. “Their sacrifice strengthens our resolve,” Lt Gen Ghai concluded. “We remain fully prepared to counter any threat to our nation.”
