A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district, along with her lover and a hired contract killer, has been arrested for the murder of her husband, Dilip Yadav, just two weeks after their marriage on March 5, 2025. The trio allegedly plotted the killing after Pragati Yadav was forced into the marriage despite her ongoing relationship with Anurag Yadav. The investigation revealed a chilling conspiracy involving a Rs 2 lakh deal to eliminate the 22-year-old victim.

Pragati Yadav, who had been in a four-year relationship with Anurag Yadav, was compelled by her family to marry Dilip Yadav. Unhappy with the arrangement, Pragati and Anurag devised a plan to kill Dilip, believing they could lead a prosperous life with his wealth. Pragati provided Anurag with Rs 1 lakh to arrange the murder, police said.

Anurag hired a contract killer, Ramji Nagar, for Rs 2 lakh to execute the plan. On March 19, while Dilip was returning from Kannauj, the accused lured him to a roadside hotel near Patna Canal under the pretense of needing help with a vehicle. They then took him on a motorcycle, brutally assaulted him, and shot him, leaving his body in a wheat field.

Locals discovered Dilip in a severely injured state and alerted the police. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries after three days of treatment. CCTV footage from the area helped police identify Ramji Nagar, leading to the arrests of Ramji, Anurag, and later Pragati, who was named the mastermind during interrogations.

The accused confessed to their roles, with police recovering country-made pistols and live cartridges during a search. A senior police official told India Today TV, “All three accused were presented before a local court and sent to jail.” The investigation continues to uncover further details of the conspiracy.

With the accused in custody, police are delving deeper into the financial motives and circumstances surrounding the murder. The case, echoing a recent Meerut incident, has raised concerns about rising crimes linked to marital disputes in Uttar Pradesh, with more updates expected as the probe progresses.
