AI Video of PM Modi's Late Mother Sparks Outrage; BJP Slams 'Disgusting' Act, Congress Probes

The Bihar Congress found itself at the centre of a massive political firestorm on Friday after its official social media handle posted a controversial AI-generated video depicting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother, Hiraben Modi. The post triggered immediate and widespread condemnation from the BJP, which slammed the act as “disgusting” and an insult to motherhood, prompting the state Congress unit to launch an internal inquiry.

The contentious video, captioned in Hindi, “Ma’ appears in Sahab’s dreams. Watch the interesting dialogue,” shows an animated character resembling PM Modi preparing for bed after a day of what he calls “‘vote chori'” (vote theft). As he sleeps, a character representing his late mother appears in a dream to scold him for using her name for political gain. “How far are you willing to fall when it comes to politics?” the dream figure asks, startling the PM Modi character awake. The video was swiftly condemned and has since become a major flashpoint.

The BJP launched a furious counter-attack. The party’s official X handle posted, “A video of their mother is being made to insult her. Have some shame, Congress people, how much lower will you stoop?” BJP MP Nishikant Dubey described it as reflecting a “deplorable mindset,” while national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari alleged the video insults women at the behest of Rahul Gandhi and warned that the people of Bihar would deliver a “befitting response” in the upcoming assembly elections. Union Minister Anurag Thakur called the act shameful, stating that to “insult someone’s mother — especially one who has passed away — is shameful.”

Faced with the escalating backlash, the Bihar Congress initiated an internal probe to identify who was responsible for sharing the content. However, the party’s response appeared divided, as senior leader Pawan Khera seemed to defend the video’s premise.

“There is no sympathy for these matters anymore. PM Modi is in politics; he has to handle everything, including the opposition’s sense of humour, appropriately,” Khera remarked. The incident follows previous controversy during Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’ in Darbhanga, where abusive slogans targeting PM Modi’s mother were allegedly chanted from a shared Congress-RJD stage.
