A 46-year-old air hostess has accused staff at a private Gurugram hospital of sexually assaulting her while she was on a ventilator in the ICU. An FIR has been registered.

The woman, who was admitted to the hospital on April 5 after falling ill, alleged the assault occurred the next day while she was unconscious and reliant on ventilator support. She was discharged on April 9 and later informed her husband, following which they approached police.

Gurugram Police confirmed that a case has been filed at the Sadar police station against unidentified hospital staff under relevant sections of the IPC, including sexual assault.

“The victim’s statement has been recorded before the magistrate in the court,” a police spokesperson said. “The police team is examining the footage of the hospital’s CCTV cameras and will soon identify the accused,” the spokesperson added.

According to the FIR, the woman was in no state to defend herself or raise an alarm due to her physical condition. The report also mentions the presence of two nurses in the ICU who allegedly did not intervene.

Officials stated that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrator(s). “We take such complaints very seriously. Once the review of CCTV footage is complete, arrests will be made promptly,” the spokesperson said.

The woman was staying at a hotel in Gurugram when she reportedly fell ill following a swimming session. She was then admitted to the ICU of the private hospital where the alleged assault occurred.

The family is now seeking justice and demanding strict action against those responsible.

Police have assured the family of a thorough and expedited probe. The hospital, which has not yet issued a public statement, is expected to cooperate with the investigation.
