An Air India flight from Hong Kong with passengers onboard caught fire shortly after landing at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday evening.

While the aircraft sustained some damage, all passengers and crew members were safely disembarked, the airline confirmed. The fire originated in the aircraft’s auxiliary power unit (APU) after it had parked at the gate.

In a statement, an Air India spokesperson provided details of the incident. “Flight AI 315, operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 22 July 2025, experienced an auxiliary power unit (APU) fire shortly after it had landed and parked at the gate. The incident occurred while passengers had begun disembarking, and the APU was automatically shut down as per system design.”

The airline reiterated that everyone was safe but the aircraft has been grounded for further investigation and that the aviation regulator has been notified.

The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) confirmed that the fire was successfully doused and an investigation into the matter is now underway.

This is the latest in a string of aviation incidents in India in the last 24 hours. On Monday, a Kolkata-bound Air India plane had to abort its takeoff from Delhi due to a technical snag. In a separate incident, an Air India flight from Kochi veered off the runway while landing in heavy rain at the Mumbai airport, leading to a temporary suspension of operations on one of the runways.

Also on Monday, an IndiGo flight from Goa to Indore, carrying 140 passengers, was forced to make an emergency landing due to a snag with its landing gear.
