All Gujarat Ministers Resign Ahead Of Major Cabinet Reshuffle Tomorrow
In a significant political development, all ministers in the Gujarat government, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, have submitted their resignations ahead of a major cabinet expansion scheduled for Friday. The Chief Minister has accepted the resignations and is expected to meet Governor Acharya Devvrat later today to stake a claim to form a new cabinet. The mass resignation is seen as a major administrative overhaul by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to bring in new faces and revamp the government.
According to a senior BJP leader, around 10 new ministers are likely to be inducted, while nearly half of the current 16 ministers may be dropped. An official government release confirmed that the new cabinet will be sworn in on Friday at 11:30 am.The current Gujarat cabinet has 17 members, including the Chief Minister. The state, with its 182-member assembly, has a constitutional limit of 27 ministers.
This reshuffle provides an opportunity to fill the vacant spots and reconfigure the ministry. The move follows other recent changes in the state’s political landscape, including the appointment of Minister of State Jagdish Vishwakarma as the new president of the state BJP unit.Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who first took office in 2021, began his second term on December 12, 2022, after a landslide victory for the BJP. This reshuffle will be the first major change to his cabinet since then.
