Amit Shah Highlights NDA’s Zero-Tolerance Policy on Terrorism, Targets Naxalism by 2026
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday emphasized the Modi government’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism, crediting it for transforming security in Kashmir, Northeast, and Maoist-affected areas, while vowing to eradicate Naxalism by March 2026.
Addressing the Rajya Sabha on March 21, 2025, Shah said India now joins the USA and Israel in staunchly defending its borders. He linked this shift to PM Narendra Modi’s policy of zero-tolerance against terrorism, launched after the Uri and Pulwama attacks.
Shah highlighted the government’s response to terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. “Attacks happened in Uri and Pulwama, but we retaliated with surgical strikes and airstrikes in Pakistan,” he said, contrasting this with previous governments’ softer approach.

The Home Minister credited the 2019 abrogation of Article 370 for a 70% reduction in terrorism-related deaths in Jammu and Kashmir. “Terror incidents have fallen sharply, and youth involvement with terrorists has almost disappeared,” Shah noted.
Shah outlined positive developments post-Article 370. “Cinema halls stay open in evenings, the G20 meeting was held, and Muharram processions took place,” he said, adding that terrorists are now buried on-site without glorification.
“By abrogating Article 370, Modi fulfilled the dream of one Constitution, one flag,” Shah stated. He emphasized that the move aligned with the framers’ vision, ensuring a single governance framework across India.
Shah vowed to eliminate Naxalism by March 2026, signaling a broader security overhaul. He detailed efforts to curb insurgency in the Northeast and Maoist regions, aligning with the NDA’s comprehensive safety agenda.
The government plans to sustain its aggressive anti-terrorism and anti-Naxalism measures. Shah’s remarks suggest continued focus on security enhancements, with progress updates expected as the 2026 deadline nears.
