In a tragic turn of events, a stage collapse at the Jain Nirvana festival in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, led to the death of five individuals and injured at least 40 others on Tuesday morning. The catastrophe occurred during a traditional ‘Laddoo’ offering ceremony where devotees gathered to honor Lord Adinath in the presence of Jain monks.

The makeshift stage, constructed from bamboo and wood, was unable to bear the weight of the crowd, leading to its sudden collapse. The event, which has been held for nearly three decades, turned into a scene of chaos and sorrow.

Baghpat’s District Magistrate, Asmita Lal, confirmed the details, stating, “This event has been conducted for nearly 30 years. At least 40 people have been injured. They have been admitted to the hospital and are undergoing treatment. Twenty people have already been released after administering first aid.”

The immediate response from local authorities was swift, with senior police officials and a significant police force arriving at the scene to manage the crisis and ensure the injured were promptly taken to hospitals. The community, known for its peaceful gatherings, was left in shock, dealing with the grief of the loss and the pain of the injured.
