Bar Council Suspends Lawyer Who Tried To Attack Chief Justice In Supreme Court

The Bar Council of India on Monday took swift and decisive action, ordering the immediate suspension of Supreme Court advocate Rakesh Kishore for his attempt to attack Chief Justice of India BR Gavai earlier in the day. The suspension immediately bars Kishore from practicing law in any court or tribunal across the country. In a strongly-worded order, the Bar Council stated that disciplinary proceedings would be initiated against Kishore under the relevant legal provisions.

A show cause notice is being issued, which will require the advocate to respond within 15 days, explaining why his suspension should not be made permanent and why further disciplinary action should not be taken against him.The national legal body has directed the Bar Council of Delhi to enforce the suspension without delay.

This includes updating Kishore’s status on its official rolls and formally informing all courts and tribunals within its jurisdiction about his suspension, effectively preventing him from appearing, acting, or pleading in any legal capacity. The move comes hours after Kishore created a major security breach in the Chief Justice’s courtroom, where he attempted to hurl a shoe at the CJI while shouting slogans related to Sanatana Dharma. He was immediately apprehended by security personnel.
