'Bas Karo, Bahut Maara Hai': PM Modi Says Pakistan Pleaded For Ceasefire After Op Sindoor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a powerful address to the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, revealed that Pakistan had pleaded for a ceasefire minutes after India launched its retaliatory ‘Operation Sindoor’. Leading the debate, the Prime Minister quoted Pakistan’s military leadership as saying “Bas karo, bahut maara hai” (please stop the attack, you have hit too hard), in a direct rebuttal to the Opposition’s claims that the government had shown weakness.

The Prime Minister’s fiery speech came minutes after Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi alleged the government had “tied the hands” of the armed forces. Directly countering this, PM Modi asserted that the government gave the forces a “free hand” to execute the operation as they saw fit. “On the night of May 6-7, we conducted an Operation the way we wanted, and Pakistan couldn’t do anything. In 22 minutes, we avenged the April 22 attack,” he said.

PM Modi recounted the moments after the operation began, stating, “Our military told the Pakistan military that we had this aim and we have achieved it… Pakistan said, ‘Bahut maara, ab jyada maar jhelne ki takat nahi hai’ (You have hit too hard, we cannot bear any more).” He added that India achieved its target “100 per cent.”

He further slammed Pakistan for its continued support of terrorism. “Had Pakistan used its brain, it wouldn’t have stood with terrorists. But shamelessly, they stood with terrorists. We were prepared and awaiting,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister used the occasion to outline three clear principles of India’s new national security doctrine. First, any terrorist attack on India will be met with a response “in our own method, on our conditions and on our time.” Second, “no nuclear blackmail would work now.” Third, India will no longer distinguish between “terrorist-supporting governments and terror masterminds.”

PM Modi also lashed out at the Congress party for its criticism of the operation, stating that while the entire world supported India’s right to defend itself, the government found no support from its primary opposition at home.
