BCCI : IPL 2025 Suspended for One Week Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

The BCCI has suspended IPL 2025 for one week with immediate effect, citing security concerns amid escalating India-Pakistan tensions. A revised schedule will be announced soon.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 suspended for one week on Friday, following growing cross-border hostilities between India and Pakistan. The decision was confirmed by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, who said the suspension was a precautionary measure to safeguard players, staff, and fans.

The Board stated that a fresh schedule will be issued shortly, once a comprehensive security review is completed in consultation with central agencies and state governments.

“The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders,” Saikia said. “The BCCI considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all involved.”

Thursday’s match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at Dharamsala was halted mid-game after air raid alerts were issued in nearby Pathankot and Jammu. The sudden abandonment of the match raised alarm among international players and franchises.

Following the incident, senior BCCI officials, including Saikia and IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, held an emergency meeting, leading to the week-long suspension. Teams have reportedly begun disbanding, with overseas players booking flights out of India.

So far, 58 matches have been played in the 2025 IPL season, including the abandoned match. Twelve league games remain, originally scheduled in cities like Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Chennai, and Mumbai.

The playoffs were set for Hyderabad and Kolkata. BCCI assured fans and franchises that the tournament will resume, with updated fixtures expected “in due course.”

“The BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces,” Saikia noted. “However, it is important to prioritise safety above all.”

The IPL suspension comes amid heightened Indo-Pak tensions, triggered by the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and India’s subsequent Operation Sindoor. Multiple drone and missile attacks have since been reported on both sides of the border, raising fears of a broader military escalation.

The Indian Armed Forces recently repelled a series of drone strikes across Jammu, Punjab, and Rajasthan, while retaliatory strikes were launched against terror camps in Pakistan and PoK.

The BCCI will continue to monitor the evolving situation and liaise with security agencies before finalising a new calendar. Franchises, broadcasters, and sponsors are expected to receive updated briefings next week.
