BJP MP Left Bloodied In Attack During Bengal Flood Relief, Party Blames TMC Goons

BJP MP Khagen Murmu was left bloodied and injured on Monday after he was attacked with stones while distributing relief materials in the flood-ravaged Nagrakata area of West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district. The BJP has squarely blamed the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) for orchestrating the attack, which occurred as Murmu and other party leaders were assisting communities devastated by recent heavy rains and landslides. The incident has sparked a fierce political war of words. BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya condemned the attack, calling it evidence of “TMC’s Jungle Raj in Bengal.”

In a post on X, Malviya criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating, “While Mamata Banerjee dances at her Kolkata Carnival, the TMC and state administration are missing in action. Those actually helping the people, BJP leaders and karyakartas, are being attacked for doing relief work. This is TMC’s Bengal, where cruelty rules and compassion is punished.”Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, echoed these sentiments, describing the incident as a “brutal attack” and an intimidation tactic by the ruling party.

He alleged that the TMC had deployed supporters from a ‘Special Community’ to prevent BJP leaders from reaching the flood victims. “MP Khagen Murmu was brutally attacked… when he was accompanying BJP President Samik Bhattacharya to the flood-affected areas,” Adhikari stated, adding, “Mamata Banerjee, you can’t intimidate BJP. Our MPs and MLAs were on the ground providing relief while her government failed to act.”

The attack took place against a backdrop of widespread devastation in North Bengal, where incessant monsoon rains have caused severe flooding and landslides, displacing thousands of residents. Despite the violence, BJP leaders have vowed to continue their relief operations in the affected regions.
