Blast Outside BJP Leader Manoranjan Kalia’s House in Jalandhar, Grenade Suspected
In a concerning development, a blast took place outside the residence of former Punjab minister and senior BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia in Jalandhar during the early hours of Tuesday. Police suspect that the explosion was caused by a grenade. No casualties were reported.
The incident occurred around 1 am, when an unidentified explosive device, believed to be a grenade, detonated near the front gate of Kalia’s residence. The senior BJP leader was inside the house at the time but escaped unhurt.
Security forces, including local police and forensic teams, promptly arrived at the scene to examine the blast site and collect evidence.
“Late at night, the police control room received information that an explosion had occurred at the residence of former minister Manoranjan Kalia. Upon receiving the information, police and forensic teams reached the spot and collected samples. An FIR has been registered, and further action has been initiated,” said Dhanpreet Kaur, a senior police official, during a briefing at the scene around 4:30 am.
While the motive behind the incident remains unclear, authorities are treating the blast as a serious security breach. The area has been cordoned off and surveillance footage from nearby CCTV cameras is being reviewed.

Forensic experts have gathered material from the site, which is currently undergoing analysis to confirm the nature of the explosive device. Early assessments suggest a low-intensity grenade may have been used.
