Chaos in the Skies: IndiGo Delhi-Srinagar Flight Hit by Severe Turbulence, Shocking Videos Emerge

An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Srinagar with 227 people onboard encountered extreme turbulence mid-air on Wednesday evening, triggering panic among passengers. Viral videos from inside the aircraft show passengers screaming, praying, and clutching seats as the aircraft violently shook during the stormy weather.

The flight, identified as 6E2142, landed safely at Srinagar airport at 6:30 PM despite facing intense weather disturbances, including a hailstorm, according to the Airport Authority of India (AAI). No injuries were reported.

Terrifying visuals shared on social media show a chaotic cabin as turbulence rocked the aircraft. Overhead bins rattled, and passengers could be seen holding hands, crying, and praying aloud. Several passengers later described it as the “most terrifying” flight of their lives.

One user posted on X (formerly Twitter):

> “We had a narrow escape from Delhi to Srinagar flight IndiGo. Special thanks to the captain and cabin crew.”

Officials confirmed that all 227 passengers and crew members were unharmed. However, preliminary assessments suggest that the aircraft may have suffered nose damage, likely due to hail impact.

An AAI official stated:

> “The aircraft encountered bad weather and hailstorm during descent. The pilot informed ATC and continued under monitoring. Flight landed safely, and aircraft has been declared AOG.”

AOG (Aircraft on Ground) indicates the aircraft will remain grounded for inspection or repairs due to potential technical or safety issues.

As of the time of publication, IndiGo has not released a formal statement addressing the incident or confirming the extent of damage to the aircraft.

Aviation experts note that such turbulence is not uncommon in the northern flight routes during seasonal transitions, though severe episodes are rare. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is expected to review the incident.

Numerous passengers took to social media to express gratitude to the pilot and crew, crediting them for a safe landing despite the frightening experience. Others called for better communication during emergencies and sought assurances from airlines about safety measures.
