Chhaava Screening Likely in Parliament On Thursday, PM Modi & Other MPs to Watch

A special screening of the Hindi film Chhaava, which portrays the life of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, is likely scheduled in Parliament’s Balayogi Auditorium on Thursday, sources confirmed on Monday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers, MPs, and the film’s cast, including lead actor Vicky Kaushal, are expected to attend. The event highlights the film’s cultural significance and its box-office success.

The screening will take place in the Parliament library building, showcasing Chhaava’s depiction of Sambhaji Maharaj’s courage and struggles against Aurangzeb. The film, released on February 14, 2025, has resonated widely, earning praise for its historical narrative. This event follows a similar screening of The Sabarmati Report in Parliament last December.

PM Modi had previously lauded the film during his address at the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan on February 21. “It is Maharashtra and Mumbai which has given a new height to Marathi as well as Hindi cinema. And these days, Chhaava is making waves throughout the country,” he said, crediting Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel for introducing Sambhaji Maharaj’s valour.

Despite competition from IPL 2025 matches, Chhaava has maintained strong theatre attendance. On Sunday, it recorded a 31% rise in collections, earning Rs 4.8 crore, bringing its India total to Rs 583.35 crore, as per Sacnilk. Globally, the film has grossed Rs 780 crore, including Rs 90.50 crore from overseas markets, with an 18.85% Hindi occupancy.

Vicky Kaushal, who plays Sambhaji Maharaj, along with the entire cast and crew, will attend the Parliament screening. The event underscores the film’s impact in bringing historical narratives to the forefront, further amplified by its commercial success and critical acclaim.

The screening is expected to spark further discussions on the portrayal of historical figures in cinema, with PM Modi and MPs likely to share their views. As Chhaava continues its theatrical run, its cultural and box-office journey remains a focal point for audiences and policymakers alike.
