Chilling Details In Kolkata Horror : Law Student Gangraped in Guard Room After Rejecting Marriage Proposal

A 24-year-old woman was allegedly confined and gangraped inside a security guard’s room at South Calcutta Law College by a leader of the Trinamool Congress’s student wing and two other students after she rejected a marriage proposal from the main accused. The harrowing details emerged from the victim’s police complaint, which has led to the arrest of all three accused, who have now been remanded to five days in police custody.
The main accused has been identified by police as Monojit Mishra, 31, the general secretary of the South Kolkata district unit of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP). In her complaint, the victim stated that Mishra had been pressuring her to marry him. After she refused, citing an existing relationship, he allegedly threatened to harm her boyfriend and entangle her parents in false cases.
The alleged assault took place on the college campus in Kasba on the night of June 25. According to the complaint, the victim was at the college when the accused locked the main gate, confined her, and assaulted her in the security guard’s room. She has also alleged that the accused recorded the entire act on a mobile phone and threatened to make the video viral if she reported the incident.
Following the registration of an FIR at Kasba Police Station, a swift investigation led to the arrests. Mishra and one of the current students, Zaib Ahmed, 19, were arrested on Thursday, June 26. The third accused, Pramit Mukherjee, 20, was apprehended from his residence in the early hours of Friday, June 27. The mobile phones of all three have been seized for forensic examination.
The three accused were produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate at Alipore Court on Friday. While police sought a fourteen-day remand, the court granted five days of police custody to allow for further investigation into the grave charges.
The direct involvement of a TMCP leader has ignited a fierce political row. The opposition BJP has seized on the incident to attack the ruling Trinamool Congress over the issue of women’s safety. In a statement, TMC spokesperson Jay Prakash Majumdar condemned the opposition’s response, stating, “It is unfortunate that the leader of the opposition is launching an attack over a social menace. We should all fight this social menace together.”
Police have secured the crime scene for forensic analysis and have recorded statements from witnesses. A preliminary medical examination of the victim has been conducted as investigators work to corroborate the shocking claims detailed in the FIR.
