Congress May Announce Major Organisational Reshuffle Ahead Of CWC Meeting In Ahmedabad
The Congress is set to undergo a significant internal overhaul, with a massive organisational reshuffle in the pipeline, senior party leader KC Venugopal announced on Tuesday. The declaration came following an extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial in Ahmedabad.
Addressing reporters after the session, Venugopal, AICC general secretary (organisation), said the party had dedicated the year 2025 to comprehensive restructuring. “We are going to have a massive organisational reshuffle, and there will be guidelines for the same. Our general secretaries and in-charges are on it,” he stated.
A key highlight of the proposed changes includes empowering the District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents with enhanced responsibilities and authority, a move seen as crucial to strengthening the party’s grassroots presence.
“We have already decided on empowering DCC presidents. Duties and powers of the DCCs have been discussed in various forums and proposals approved. We will roll out the changes soon,” Venugopal added.
The Congress also sought to reinforce its ideological roots by reaffirming its commitment to the vision of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. A resolution passed at the CWC stated the party would walk on the path of “social justice” laid out by the freedom fighter and India’s first Deputy Prime Minister.
“In this Nyay Path, we are inspired by Sardar Patel’s principles — standing up against oppression, fighting for farmers and workers, and rejecting communalism,” said Venugopal.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, in his address, accused the BJP and RSS of appropriating Sardar Patel’s legacy as part of a “well-planned conspiracy” against national heroes. “Sardar Patel Saheb lives in our hearts, lives in our thoughts. We are taking his legacy forward,” Kharge said.
AICC general secretary Sachin Pilot, speaking outside the venue, emphasised the party’s focus on strengthening district-level units. “The accountability, responsibility, and political strength of DCC presidents will be enhanced. The goal is to expand our presence in villages, booths, and divisions,” he said.
Pilot also outlined the party’s strategy for 2025, calling it the “year of the organisation”. The plan includes large-scale outreach through padyatras, door-to-door campaigns, and other contact programmes aimed at energising workers and reconnecting with the masses.
“The next few elections will be fought with full strength. We are confident that Congress and its supporting ideologies will come together to pose a strong challenge to the BJP and the NDA,” he added.
The party’s extended CWC session, themed “Nyaypath: Sankalp, Samarpan aur Sangharsh”, will culminate in a convention on April 9, attended by over 1,700 AICC members. The final resolution, titled ‘Nyay Path’, is expected to define the Congress’s roadmap for social justice, political mobilisation, and organisational revival.
“The session tomorrow will write a new chapter in history,” Pilot said, hinting at bold steps in the party’s forward journey.
