Congress MP R. Sudha's Gold Chain Snatched in High-Security Delhi Area

Congress Member of Parliament R. Sudha had her gold chain snatched by a scooter-borne assailant on Monday morning while on a walk in the high-security Chanakyapuri area of New Delhi. The incident occurred near the Embassy of Poland, despite the location being in one of the capital’s most protected zones, which houses numerous embassies and VIP residences. The Delhi Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

The incident took place at approximately 6:15 AM while Sudha, the Lok Sabha MP from Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu, was on a morning walk with another Rajya Sabha MP, Ms. Rajathi. In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Sudha detailed the attack, stating that a man on a scooter, his face obscured by a full-coverage helmet, approached them from the opposite direction and snatched her chain.

“Sir, since he was coming slowly in the opposite direction, I did not suspect he could be a chain-snatcher,” Sudha wrote in her letter. “As he pulled the chain from my neck, I suffered injuries on my neck, and my churidhar also got torn in the impact. I somehow managed not to fall, and both of us cried for help.” The MP, who is currently staying at the nearby Tamil Nadu Bhawan, urged the Home Minister to direct authorities to swiftly track down and arrest the culprit.

The brazen attack in the diplomatic enclave has raised significant concerns about safety and policing in the national capital. Delhi Police has formed multiple teams to investigate the matter and is currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area in an effort to identify and apprehend the assailant who managed to flee the scene. The incident highlights a serious security lapse in a zone that is expected to be under constant surveillance.
