Cyber Attack On Jammu Municipal Corporation Website, Critical Citizen Data Stolen
In a major cyber breach, the Jammu Municipal Corporation’s website was hacked on Friday, resulting in the theft of sensitive citizen and administrative data, sources confirmed.
Top intelligence officials revealed that hackers infiltrated the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) website and stole crucial data including Aadhaar details, property records, tax documents, and urban planning files. The attack, believed to be state-sponsored, has triggered high alert across digital infrastructure in the region.
“Such attacks align with patterns of Pakistan-backed cyber operations aimed at destabilising Indian administrative infrastructure,” an intelligence source said “The targeting of sensitive government systems in Jammu and Kashmir is part of a deliberate strategy.”
Authorities are currently working to restore the website and assess the extent of the breach.
The cyber attack follows a series of failed intrusion attempts on other Indian websites. On Thursday, Pakistan-based hacker groups like ‘Cyber Group HOAX1337’ and ‘National Cyber Crew’ tried to breach Indian digital networks but were thwarted by national cybersecurity agencies.
These attempts included efforts to deface the websites of Army Public School Nagrota and Army Public School Sunjuwan with messages mocking victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.
In another case, a website providing healthcare services to ex-servicemen was compromised, raising concerns about targeted attacks on vulnerable user bases like children and veterans.
Cybersecurity experts believe that these breaches are part of a broader hybrid warfare strategy employed by adversaries to provoke instability. “Digital incursions like these are not just data thefts; they are psychological operations,” said a senior cybersecurity analyst with a government think tank.
The recurring targeting of Jammu and Kashmir-based platforms reflects the strategic importance of the region and the need to bolster cybersecurity at local administrative levels.
Officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) are actively investigating the breach. Local law enforcement in Jammu has also been asked to coordinate with national cybercrime units.
