Dalit Teen Allegedly Assaulted, Urinated Upon in Rajasthan’s Sikar

A 19-year-old Dalit youth from Rajasthan’s Sikar district was allegedly beaten, urinated upon, and sexually assaulted by two men on April 8, police said. An FIR was lodged on April 16.

The incident occurred in Sikar’s Fatehpur area when the victim was lured to a bus stand under false pretenses. The accused allegedly took him to a secluded spot, assaulted him, and recorded the act. Police have registered a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

“They hit me with a bottle, urinated on me, and used casteist slurs,” the victim alleged. He claimed the accused threatened to share the video online if he reported the incident. A medical examination and the victim’s statement have been recorded.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Arvind Kumar confirmed the FIR and ongoing investigation. “We are probing all angles and will ensure justice,” Kumar said. The accused remain at large, police added.

The complaint alleges the accused targeted the victim to harm his father, who is abroad. The delay in filing the FIR was attributed to the victim’s trauma. Authorities are verifying the video evidence.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot criticized the BJP-led state government, stating, “The trauma was so severe that the young man couldn’t file a complaint for eight days.” Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully called the incident “a shameful reality” of Rajasthan’s law and order situation. Both leaders demanded swift action.

Rajasthan reported 8,133 cases under the SC/ST Act in 2023, per NCRB data, highlighting persistent caste-based violence. Activists say such incidents reflect systemic issues in rural areas.

Rajasthan has seen recurring caste-based atrocities, particularly against Dalits, despite stringent laws. Sikar, a semi-urban district, has reported similar incidents in recent years. Delayed FIRs and victim intimidation remain challenges, experts note.

“The SC/ST Act is robust, but implementation lags in rural areas,” said Dr. Anita Sharma, a Jaipur-based sociologist. She urged better police training and community sensitization.

Police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the accused and verify the video evidence. The case has sparked calls for stricter enforcement of anti-caste laws. Activists demand a fast-tracked trial to ensure justice for the victim.
