In a recent press conference, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of deploying “goons” and utilizing police forces to hinder the registration process for the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) welfare schemes. This allegation follows the Delhi Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat initiating a probe into AAP’s initiatives after receiving complaints from Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit.

Arvind Kejriwal claimed that the BJP, lacking the courage to act directly, collaborated with Congress to file complaints against AAP’s welfare schemes. He stated, “BJP lacked the courage to act directly and instead got Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit to file the complaint. Congress and BJP are working together to stop AAP.” This marks a significant instance where Kejriwal has targeted both parties simultaneously.

The Lieutenant Governor’s office highlighted several concerns, including :

  • AAP’s promise to provide ₹2,100 to eligible women voters
  • Allegations of intelligence officers from Punjab operating at Congress candidates’ residences in Delhi
  • Claims of cash being transferred from Punjab to Delhi ahead of the elections.

Kejriwal addressed these concerns and dismissed the allegations. He asserted that the welfare schemes, such as the Mahila Samman Card and Sanjeevani Yojna, are electoral promises. They are intended for implementation post-election victory. He questioned the basis of the investigation, stating, “What is there to investigate? These are promises we’ve made for after we win the elections.” He encouraged Delhi residents to continue registering for these initiatives, emphasizing their future benefits.

Kejriwal further alleged that BJP leaders dispatched individuals to disrupt AAP’s registration camps. They also involved the Delhi Police to halt the registration process. He accused the BJP of being anti-women and anti-elderly, claiming, “BJP doesn’t want the welfare of women and the elderly. They are anti-women and don’t want them to progress.” He warned that a BJP victory could lead to the discontinuation of these welfare schemes. This outcome could make Delhi unlivable for its residents.

The ongoing political tensions in Delhi highlight the contentious atmosphere as parties prepare for the upcoming assembly elections. Kejriwal has made allegations against the BJP and Congress. These allegations underscore the challenges faced by AAP. AAP struggles to implement its proposed welfare schemes amid opposition from rival parties.
