In a heated press conference on Sunday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal leveled serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Kejriwal claimed that the BJP is tampering with voter lists as part of a covert operation dubbed “Operation Lotus” to influence the upcoming 2025 Delhi state assembly elections.

Arvind Kejriwal alleged that the BJP has been orchestrating this operation since December 15, targeting voters in key constituencies. “In my New Delhi assembly constituency, their ‘Operation Lotus’ has led to the deletion of 5,000 votes and the addition of 7,500 votes in just 15 days. They are manipulating around 12% of the total voters in the assembly,” he stated.

The AAP leader criticized the BJP, stating they have “no chief ministerial face, no vision, and no credible candidates.” According to him, the manipulation of voter lists shows the BJP is desperate to win in Delhi. They acknowledge an impending defeat.

Kejriwal’s allegations were echoed by Delhi Chief Minister Atishi. She accused BJP leaders of bribing voters in the New Delhi constituency. She claimed that Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, a former MP from West Delhi, was caught distributing money to sway voters. A criminal complaint has been filed against Verma at Barakhamba Police Station, adding to the mounting controversy.

Delhi’s state assembly elections are expected to take place in early 2025. In the 2020 elections, AAP emerged victorious, securing 62 out of 70 seats, while BJP managed to win only eight. With high stakes this time around, accusations of voter tampering and bribery are likely to fuel an intense political battle.

The allegations against the BJP underscore the need for transparent electoral processes. As the Delhi elections approach, the Election Commission may come under pressure to ensure fairness amid these allegations of manipulation and misconduct.
