Atishi Slams BJP for ‘Anti-Dalit, Anti-Sikh’ Move Says Ambedkar, Bhagat Singh Photos Removed from Delhi CM Office
New Delhi, February 24, 2025 – A fresh political storm erupted in Delhi today as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Atishi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of showing an “anti-Dalit and anti-Sikh” stance. The charge came after photos of Dr. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh were reportedly removed from the Chief Minister’s office, sparking outrage among AAP leaders and supporters.
Addressing a press conference, Atishi claimed that the BJP wasted no time revealing its “true colors” after taking power. “Arvind Kejriwal had placed photos of Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh in every Delhi government office. But the BJP, now in power, has removed them from the CM’s office. This proves their anti-Dalit and anti-Sikh mentality,” she said. The AAP leader led a protest with party MLAs on the Delhi Assembly premises, demanding answers from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s administration.

The controversy unfolded on the first day of the Delhi Assembly session, just weeks after the BJP ended AAP’s 10-year rule by winning 48 of 70 seats in the February 2025 elections. Atishi argued that Ambedkar, a champion of Dalit rights and the architect of India’s Constitution, and Bhagat Singh, a Sikh revolutionary icon, represent the values of equality and justice—values she says the BJP is undermining. “Does the BJP hate these heroes?” she asked, pointing to the symbolic weight of the removals.
The BJP has yet to officially respond, but the move has fueled tensions in the Assembly, where AAP MLAs raised the issue, leading to chaotic scenes. Posts on X reflect growing public anger, with some calling it a deliberate insult to Dalit and Sikh communities. This isn’t the first time the BJP has faced such accusations; critics have long alleged it sidelines minority voices, a claim the party denies.
Atishi vowed to keep fighting. “We’ll ensure the BJP answers for this disrespect,” she said. As Delhi’s political landscape heats up, this clash signals more battles ahead between the ruling BJP and a determined AAP opposition.
