British Woman Raped by ‘Friend’ in Delhi Hotel, Molested in Lift
A British woman was allegedly raped by a man she met through social media in a Delhi hotel and later molested by another man in the hotel lift while seeking help. Police have arrested both accused in connection with the incident in Mahipalpur.
The assault took place in south-west Delhi’s Mahipalpur area, near the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The victim, who arrived in India to meet a man she befriended online, checked into a hotel where the incident occurred on Tuesday. She had been in regular contact with the accused via social media before deciding to visit him in person.
According to police, a heated argument broke out between the woman and the accused at the hotel. The victim alleged that he acted inappropriately, leading to her rape by the man she considered a friend. She managed to raise an alarm and escaped to the hotel reception for assistance.
The ordeal continued as another man, posing as a helper, allegedly molested her in the hotel lift. The woman reported the second assault after reaching the reception, prompting immediate police action. Both suspects were apprehended on charges of rape and molestation, respectively.

Delhi Police have informed the British High Commission about the incident. “An investigation is underway to ascertain the full details of the case,” a police official stated, confirming the arrests. The victim’s statement has been recorded, and authorities are gathering further evidence.
This incident follows reports of two women, including an Israeli tourist, allegedly raped by three youths in Karnataka’s Koppal district days ago. In that case, a male companion drowned after being pushed into a canal by the assailants. The recurring crimes have raised concerns about tourist safety in India.
Police are continuing their probe into the Mahipalpur incident, with efforts focused on ensuring justice for the victim. The British High Commission is likely to provide consular support as the case progresses. Further updates are expected as the investigation unfolds.
