‘Can’t Stop Out of Fear’: Defiant Rekha Gupta to Take Public Hearings Across Delhi After Attack

A day after being assaulted at her residence, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday issued a defiant message, vowing to expand her public outreach by holding grievance hearings in every assembly constituency across the capital. Citing a powerful lesson from her father, she declared that “unexpected blows” would never break her resolve to serve the people of Delhi.

In an emotional post on X, the Chief Minister recalled a car accident in her college days that left her afraid to drive again. “Then Papa said that accidents happen in life, but you can’t stop out of fear. You can’t stop walking on the path,” she wrote. “Today, his same lesson comes to mind again. Yesterday, another accident happened, but I can never stop fighting for the interests of Delhiites. Every moment of my life and every particle of my body is dedicated to Delhi.”

Gupta asserted that she is ready for the challenges ahead, stating that “women have double the strength to fight through difficulties.” Putting this resilience into action, she announced a major expansion of her ‘Jan Sunwai’ program. “Now, public hearings will not only be held at my home but in every assembly of Delhi. Your Chief Minister, at your doorstep,” she declared.

The announcement comes after the shocking attack on Wednesday morning, when a man identified as Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai breached a queue during a public hearing, then shouted, slapped, and pulled the Chief Minister’s hair before being overpowered by security.

Police have since registered an attempt to murder case against the accused. In response to the serious security lapse, the Central government has upgraded Gupta’s security to the Z-category, with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) now in charge of her protection.
