Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Targets AAP Corruption: “14 CAG Reports Set to Expose Misuse of Every Single Rupee”
Delhi’s new Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is wasting no time, promising to dig into alleged corruption from the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) decade-long rule. Speaking ahead of the Delhi Assembly’s first session on Monday, Gupta declared, “Every single rupee of the people’s hard-earned money will have to be accounted for.” Her BJP government plans to table 14 long-pending Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports, a move she says will uncover how past governments misused public funds.
The three-day session kicks off tomorrow, with MLAs taking their oaths and electing a Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Gupta emphasized that presenting the CAG reports is her top priority. “This is the most important thing to come,” she said. “The people’s money was misused by previous governments, and they’ll answer for every rupee.”
The session starts with Protem Speaker Arvinder Singh Lovely sworn in by Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena on Monday morning. Out of the 14 CAG reports, 11 date back to Arvind Kejriwal’s tenure as CM, while three cover Atishi’s brief stint in 2024. The BJP, which stormed to power with 48 seats in the 70-seat assembly earlier this month, alleges AAP hid these reports to bury evidence of financial scandals.

Gupta’s action plan is clear: fulfill election promises and prioritize Delhiites’ rights. “We have a lot of work to do,” she said. “This session will bring new dimensions for Delhi.” The reports, set to be tabled on Tuesday, include audits on projects like healthcare, liquor policy, and infrastructure—areas where BJP claims AAP overspent crores.
For years, BJP leaders like Vijender Gupta, now a frontrunner for Speaker, pushed AAP to release these reports. They even took the fight to the Delhi High Court in 2024, accusing AAP of dodging accountability. A leaked CAG report before the elections fueled the fire, showing costs for Kejriwal’s residence renovation ballooned from Rs 7.61 crore to Rs 33.66 crore—claims AAP dismissed as exaggerated.
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva doubled down today, saying, “We’ll make Delhi a developed capital and shut AAP’s lies.” BJP MLA Satish Upadhyay added, “Everyone’s excited for this session. Our CM is in action mode, and people are loving it.” He sidestepped commenting on Atishi, now the Leader of the Opposition, focusing instead on Gupta’s momentum.
The 14 reports span 2017 to 2022, covering AAP’s flagship projects. One alleges a Rs 2,026 crore loss from a scrapped excise policy under Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia. Another flags the “Sheesh Mahal” controversy, where renovation costs soared, sparking BJP’s “museum of corruption” jibe. AAP has hit back, calling these attacks political stunts, but the public will soon see the numbers for themselves.
