Delhi CM's Attacker Planned to Stab Her, Threw Away Knife Due to Heavy Security: Police

The man who attacked Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at her residence last week has confessed to police that he originally planned to stab her with a knife but was deterred by the heavy security presence. The attacker, identified as Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakriya from Gujarat, made the chilling revelation during his interrogation.

Rajesh told investigators that he was carrying a knife with the intention of attacking the Chief Minister during her public grievance hearing on August 20. However, upon seeing the tight security arrangements at her Civil Lines residence, he abandoned his plan and threw the knife away in the vicinity. He also revealed that he had first gone to the Supreme Court but returned from there after observing the heavy security deployment outside the court.

Following the attack, where he managed to reach the Chief Minister, Rajesh was swiftly arrested. He has since been remanded to five days in police custody.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who was reportedly shocked by the incident, later described it as a “cowardly attempt” on her work for the people of Delhi. Speaking at a public event on Sunday, she addressed the attack, stating that “Lord Ram’s blessings and people’s affection” keep her safe.

At the foundation-laying ceremony for two Ramlilas in Shalimar Bagh, Gupta said, “Lord Ram has entrusted me with the responsibility of leading Delhi on the path of Ram Rajya.” Referring to the recent assault, she added that the blessings of Lord Ram, combined with the support of Delhi’s citizens, remain her greatest strength and protection.
