Delhi L-G Orders ACB Probe into AAP’s Accusations Of BJP Poaching MLAs
In a whirlwind of political drama right before the Delhi Assembly election results, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (L-G) VK Saxena has recommended an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigation into explosive allegations made by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal accused the BJP of attempting to poach 16 AAP MLAs by offering them Rs 15 crore each to defect.
The controversy erupted when AAP claimed that these offers came just hours after exit polls suggested a BJP victory, potentially ending their 27-year absence from power in Delhi. Kejriwal took to X to voice his concerns, stating that the promises included not only a hefty sum but also ministerial positions. His post read, “Some agencies are showing that the abusive party is getting more than 55 seats… 16 of our candidates have received calls saying, ‘Leave AAP and join our party, we’ll make you ministers and give each of you Rs 15-15 crore.'”
The BJP, however, has vehemently denied these allegations, calling them “false and baseless.” In response, they filed a complaint with the L-G’s office, accusing AAP of fabricating these claims to tarnish the BJP’s image and stir unrest.

Following this, the L-G’s office issued a statement indicating that a thorough investigation by the ACB was necessary to uncover the truth. “Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor has desired that this matter merits a thorough investigation through the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) to establish the truth in the matter,” the statement read.
The ACB has already begun its probe by visiting the residences of key AAP figures, including Kejriwal, Sanjay Singh, and Mukesh Ahlawat. Delhi BJP General Secretary Vishnu Mittal also wrote to the L-G, demanding an FIR against Kejriwal and Singh, and a detailed inquiry into how the alleged contacts were made, whether by phone or in person.
Mukesh Ahlawat, one of the accused MLAs, staunchly supported Kejriwal, declaring his loyalty to AAP, saying he’d “rather die” than leave the party. This statement not only shows the internal cohesion within AAP but also highlights the emotional stakes of this political tussle.
As Delhi waits for the official results on Saturday, this investigation adds another layer of intrigue to an already heated election season. It raises questions about political ethics, the integrity of electoral campaigns, and the lengths parties might go to gain power.
This scenario underscores the volatile nature of Indian politics, where every claim and counter-claim can sway public opinion and potentially influence the outcome of elections. As we watch this drama unfold, it’s a reminder of the complex interplay between politics, power, and public perception. Stay tuned for updates as the ACB’s findings could sway the political landscape of Delhi.
