Delhi Sees Decline in Street Crime and Rape Cases in Q1 2025: Police Data
Delhi recorded a significant decline in street crime and rape cases in the first quarter of 2025, according to police data, marking a positive shift in the city’s law and order scenario.
Snatching incidents saw the most notable drop, with only 1,199 cases reported from January to March 2025 — down from 1,812 in 2023 and 1,925 in 2024. This marks a 33.82% fall from 2023 and a 37.69% drop from last year.
Robbery cases, too, declined to 315 this year, compared to 424 in 2024 and 375 in 2023, reflecting a 16% reduction from 2023 and a 25.7% dip from last year.
Rape cases registered a decline, with 370 reported in the first quarter of 2025, compared to 422 cases in 2023. Additionally, kidnapping and abduction cases dipped to 1,360 from 1,393 in the same period last year.
A senior police officer stated, “The reduction in violent crimes and crimes against women is the result of intensified patrolling, enhanced night surveillance, and a more assertive law and order approach.”
The decline follows a series of strategic initiatives rolled out by the Delhi Police, including increased beat policing, deployment of quick response teams, and use of predictive crime mapping in vulnerable areas.
“While there has been a 1.8% drop in overall cases over the last two years, we consider even small dips in major crimes as progress. However, vigilance must continue,” the officer added.
