Delhi to Meerut in Just 40 Minutes: PM Modi Inaugurates Namo Bharat RRTS Corridor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the latest segment of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor on Sunday, revolutionizing travel between the two cities. This 13-km stretch, connecting Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, marks a significant step in improving regional connectivity and reducing travel time.

The 55-km operational section of the RRTS corridor now connects New Ashok Nagar in Delhi to Meerut South. It features 11 state-of-the-art stations. Commuters can complete the journey in under 40 minutes, cutting travel time by a third. The project is part of the larger 82-km Namo Bharat corridor. This corridor links Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut.

Key Features of the Newly Inaugurated Section

  • Underground Stretch: The 13-km section includes a 6-km underground segment. This includes the Anand Vihar station. It is a critical transit hub connecting Delhi Metro’s Blue and Pink Lines, a railway station, and a bus terminal.
  • Interconnectivity: New Ashok Nagar RRTS station offers seamless interchange with the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line, enhancing commuter convenience.
  • Passenger Services: Trains operate every 15 minutes, starting at 5 PM. Fares range from ₹150 for the standard coach to ₹225 for the premium coach.

This inauguration follows the opening of the 17-km priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot in October last year. The Namo Bharat trains now operate on Delhi’s underground tracks for the first time. They set a benchmark for modern, efficient transportation.

Spanning 82 km with 16 Namo Bharat stations and 9 Meerut Metro stations, the corridor promises to transform regional mobility. Passengers can enjoy a premium travel experience, reduced congestion, and faster commutes, making it a sustainable alternative to traditional road travel.
