Strong Tremors Shake Delhi-NCR After 4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Haryana's Jhajjar

Strong tremors were felt across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Thursday morning after a 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck Jhajjar in Haryana at 9:04 am, prompting residents to rush out of homes and offices in panic.

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake’s epicentre was located in Jhajjar, around 60 km from Delhi, causing fans, lights, and computer screens to sway briefly across residential and office buildings in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad.

Residents reported feeling the tremors in multiple parts of the capital, with many leaving their homes as a precaution. Office-goers in Noida and Gurugram reported shaking furniture and swaying monitors, while similar experiences were noted in Ghaziabad and Faridabad. The tremors also reached as far as Meerut and Shamli in western Uttar Pradesh, nearly 200 km from the epicentre, causing brief concern among residents.

Despite the moderate intensity of the quake, there have been no immediate reports of damage to property or injuries, according to local police and disaster management officials. “We are monitoring the situation, and no damage or casualties have been reported so far,” a senior Delhi Disaster Management Authority official stated.

On social media, users shared videos showing ceiling fans and hanging lights swaying during the tremors, with many expressing relief that the quake did not cause harm. Some residents described the shaking as “strong enough to notice but brief,” while others reported experiencing a mild sense of dizziness during the tremors.

The Delhi-NCR region, falling under seismic zone IV, is prone to earthquakes, and residents are often reminded to follow safety precautions during such events. Earlier this year, minor tremors were reported in parts of NCR, but Thursday’s quake was stronger and widely felt across the region.

Authorities have advised residents to remain calm while staying alert for aftershocks, although no significant aftershocks have been reported as of now.
