Encounter Erupts in J&K’s Kathua After Security Forces Intercept With Terrorists
Security forces engaged in a fierce encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Sunday evening after intercepting a group of infiltrators near the International Border in Sanyal village, officials said.
The clash began on March 23, 2025, when security forces launched a search operation in Sanyal village, Hiranagar sector, following intelligence about four to five terrorists crossing the border. The operation quickly escalated into an encounter as the terrorists opened fire.
Officials reported that additional security personnel, including army and police units, were deployed to the site to contain the situation. The encounter unfolded close to the International Border, raising concerns about fresh infiltration attempts.

This incident follows a similar encounter on March 17 in Kupwara district, where security forces clashed with terrorists in Krumhoora village. That operation, triggered by a cordon and search effort, also saw terrorists firing at the forces, leading to a gunfight.
Authorities have cordoned off Sanyal village to neutralize the threat. “Reinforcements have been rushed to the spot,” an official stated, indicating a robust response to the latest breach near the border area.
The encounter in Kathua remains active, with security forces working to eliminate the terrorists. Further details, including casualties or the group’s identity, are awaited as the operation progresses, amid heightened vigilance in the region.
