2 Terrorists Killed In Ongoing Encounter In J&K’s Kishtwar
2 terrorists killed in an intense gunbattle broke out early Thursday between security forces and a group of terrorists in the Singhpora area of Chatroo in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district. and a high-alert operation is currently underway.
According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, the encounter began after security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the dense forested region of Chatroo based on intelligence inputs about the presence of militants.
“Contact was established with the terrorists in the Singhpora area this morning. Exchange of fire is ongoing,” a senior police official confirmed. “We believe a group of at least three or four terrorists is cornered.”
The operation is being carried out by a joint team of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF. The area has been sealed off and additional reinforcements have been sent in to prevent any escape.
This encounter follows a series of anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir, including one last week in Tral, Pulwama district, where three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists — Asif Ahmed Sheikh, Amir Nazir Wani, and Yawar Ahmad Bhat — were gunned down.
Earlier this month, two other encounters took place in the Keller area of Shopian and the Nadar area of Tral, indicating a renewed wave of counter-terror operations in South Kashmir.
The region has been on high alert since the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians were killed. In response, security agencies have ramped up search operations and surveillance across sensitive districts.
In addition to intensified encounters, authorities have begun demolishing properties linked to terrorists across the Union Territory as part of a wider anti-terror crackdown.
As the encounter in Kishtwar continues, no official confirmation on casualties or the identities of the terrorists has been released.
