Former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash Found Murdered at Bengaluru Residence, Wife Questioned

Former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash was found murdered at his Bengaluru home on Sunday; his wife is being questioned in connection with the crime.

The 68-year-old retired IPS officer was discovered with multiple stab wounds at his residence in HSR Layout. Bengaluru Police said a murder weapon was recovered at the scene.

“There was a call on the 112 police helpline. When the team arrived, they found that Om Prakash had been murdered,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Vikash Kumar Vikash.

According to officials, the former top cop had injuries on his chest, stomach, and hand. His wife, Pallavi, and daughter—both present in the house—are being interrogated.

“We are questioning his wife and daughter. His son is also being contacted for more information. We have not arrested anyone yet. The motive is still under investigation,” Vikash added.

Sources revealed that Pallavi reportedly called the wife of another retired IPS officer and confessed to the murder. Police are probing this angle further.

Investigators suspect long-standing domestic discord may have played a role in the tragic incident. However, no formal charges had been filed against any family member as of Sunday evening.

The police have recorded preliminary statements and are awaiting the full forensic report.

Om Prakash, a 1981-batch IPS officer, hailed from Champaran in Bihar. He began his service in Karnataka as the assistant superintendent of police (ASP) in Harapanahalli.

During his career, he served as superintendent of police (SP) in Shimoga, Uttara Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru, among other districts. He held notable roles such as state vigilance SP and worked with the Karnataka Lokayukta.

He also served as DIG of Fire Services and IGP of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Om Prakash was appointed as Karnataka’s DGP in March 2015 and retired in 2017.

Police have sealed off the HSR Layout residence for evidence collection. A postmortem has been conducted, and further details are awaited.

Authorities are being cautious about drawing conclusions until the investigation progresses further.

Meanwhile, tributes have begun pouring in from senior police officials and former colleagues who remembered Om Prakash as a respected and disciplined officer.
