Fresh Gunfight Erupts in J&K’s Kishtwar as Army Engages Terrorists; Operation Underway

A fierce gunfight broke out between Indian Army troops and terrorists in the Dul area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district during the early hours of Sunday. The encounter began after security forces, acting on specific intelligence inputs, tracked down and established contact with the suspected militants, leading to an immediate exchange of fire.
According to the Army’s White Knight Corps, the operation was launched based on intelligence about terrorist movement in the remote, mountainous region. Security sources believe that two to three Pakistani terrorists are currently holed up in the area. The Army has since cordoned off the location, and the operation to neutralize the militants is actively in progress. Further details regarding casualties and the precise number of terrorists involved are still awaited as the situation unfolds.
This latest clash highlights the heightened counter-terrorism activities in the Kishtwar region, where security forces have been intensifying their efforts to eliminate militant presence. The encounter in Dul comes as forces are already engaged in one of the Valley’s longest-running anti-terror offensives, Operation Akhal, in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Launched on August 1, Operation Akhal has so far resulted in the deaths of two terrorists. The protracted engagement in Kulgam’s dense forests has also led to the loss of two Army personnel, Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh, with ten others injured over the past ten days. Elite PARA units, supported by drones and attack helicopters, continue their efforts to flush out the remaining two to three terrorists cornered in the area.
