Govt Announces Rs 3,000 FASTag Annual Pass for Private Vehicles from August 15
In a significant move to make highway travel more convenient and cost-effective, the Union government on Wednesday announced the launch of a new FASTag-based Annual Pass for private vehicles, priced at a flat rate of Rs 3,000. The scheme will come into effect on August 15, 2025.
The announcement was made by the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, who stated that the initiative is a “transformative step towards hassle-free highway travel.” The pass is designed exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans.
According to the official announcement, the annual pass will be valid for one year from its date of activation or for up to 200 trips on National Highways across the country, whichever comes first. Passing through one toll plaza will be counted as one trip. This new system aims to benefit regular commuters by offering predictability in travel costs and reducing the hassle of frequent toll deductions.
One of the key objectives of the policy is to address the long-standing public grievance regarding toll plazas located within 60 km of each other, which often leads to disputes and higher costs for local commuters. The single, upfront payment model is expected to resolve this issue, reduce wait times, ease congestion, and minimize conflicts at toll plazas.
The government will soon provide a dedicated link for activating and renewing the pass on the ‘Rajmarg Yatra’ mobile application, as well as on the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). To apply, users will need their valid FASTag credentials and vehicle registration number for verification.
This initiative is part of the ministry’s larger push for digital mobility and a more efficient, congestion-free highway network in India. With FASTag already mandated nationwide, the annual pass is seen as a logical next step to enhance the user experience for millions of private vehicle owners
