Hindu Activist Suhas Shetty Hacked to Death in Mangaluru; Attack Caught on Camera

Suhas Shetty, a Hindu activist and murder accused, was hacked to death by a group of men in Mangaluru on Thursday night. The attack was caught on CCTV.

The incident occurred at around 8:27 PM near Kinnipadavu Cross in Mangaluru. Suhas Shetty was travelling with five others—Sanjay, Prajwal, Anvith, Latheesh, and Shashank—when their vehicle was intercepted by assailants in a Swift car and a pickup truck.

The attackers, wielding swords and sharp weapons, dragged Shetty out of the car and assaulted him in full public view. The gruesome act was captured on video and widely shared across social media platforms, sparking outrage and demands for justice.

Shetty was rushed to AJ Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Suhas Shetty had five criminal cases registered against him in Mangaluru city and Dakshina Kannada district police limits. He was the main accused in the 2022 murder of 23-year-old Mohammed Fazil in Surathkal.

Fazil’s murder had come two days after BJP Yuva Morcha worker Praveen Nettaru’s killing in Bellare, a case that led to political tension and protests in Karnataka.

BJP MP from Bengaluru, PC Mohan, condemned the killing in a post on X:

“Deeply saddened by the brutal killing of Hindu karyakarta Suhas Shetty by suspected jihadi elements in Mangaluru… My prayers are with his family. Om Shanti.”

Mangaluru City Police confirmed that a case is being registered at Bajpe Police Station. “Multiple teams have been deployed to trace and apprehend the culprits,” an official said.

Shetty’s name had long been associated with communal tensions in the region, particularly following Fazil’s murder. The latest killing comes amid increasing concern over targeted attacks and political violence in coastal Karnataka.

Police have appealed to the public to refrain from circulating graphic footage and to maintain peace.

Authorities have assured a swift investigation and are analysing CCTV footage to identify the attackers. Security has been tightened in Mangaluru to prevent any flare-ups.
