‘I Was Pak Army’s Trusted Agent’: 26/11 Plotter Tahawwur Rana Admits Role In Mumbai Attacks
In an explosive confession, Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key conspirator in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, has admitted to his role in the 2008 carnage, telling investigators he was a “trusted agent of the Pakistani army,” sources saidon Monday.
Rana, a Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman who was extradited from the US earlier this year, is currently in the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. During his recent questioning by the Mumbai Crime Branch, he reportedly divulged crucial details about the planning and execution of the attacks that killed 166 people.
According to sources, Rana admitted that he and his aide, David Coleman Headley, underwent several training sessions with the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). He confessed that the idea to open an immigration firm’s office in Mumbai was his, and it was set up as a cover for their terror activities.
Crucially, Rana has admitted that he was present in Mumbai at the time of the attacks, which he said was part of the terrorists’ plan. He also confessed to have personally conducted reconnaissance of targets, including the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), and stated his belief that the attacks were carried out in collaboration with Pakistan’s spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The 64-year-old also revealed that he was previously sent to Saudi Arabia by the Pakistani army during the Khaleej War, further establishing his deep links with the country’s military establishment.
Following these significant admissions, the Mumbai Police are now preparing to formally arrest Rana and take him into their custody for further investigation into the Mumbai attacks case.
Rana’s confession is a major breakthrough for Indian agencies, 17 years after the horrific attacks. He was extradited to India in May this year after a long legal battle in the United States, where he was serving a sentence for his role in a separate terror plot.
