India Warns Pakistan Over Ceasefire Violations Amid Rising LoC Tensions

India has issued a stern warning to Pakistan over repeated ceasefire violations along the LoC, during a rare DGMO-level hotline conversation amid post-Pahalgam attack tensions.

In a high-level communication between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan on Tuesday, the Indian side cautioned Islamabad against continued unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC). Defence sources said India took a firm stance following multiple ceasefire violations in Jammu and Kashmir since April 22.

The hotline conversation, which took place amid a diplomatic and military flare-up after the Pahalgam terror attack, addressed recent provocations including Pakistani firing in the Pargwal sector along the International Border late Monday night.

Until early Monday, firing incidents were reported from LoC areas like Naushera and Sunderbani in Rajouri district, Baramulla and Kupwara in north Kashmir, and Akhnoor in Jammu. However, the situation intensified when Pakistani troops targeted the Pargwal sector.

Additional Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were rushed to the International Border, and Indian troops responded “swiftly and proportionately,” a defence official said on condition of anonymity.

Sources also revealed that the Indian Army briefed the DGMO on the ground situation and ongoing violations across the border regions.

Reports indicate Pakistan’s military is anticipating retaliatory strikes from India following the Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 civilians in the Baisaran Valley. Pakistani forces are reportedly on high alert, with the air force limiting flight operations by over 50% to avoid aerial congestion and reduce the risk of miscalculation.

Adding to the tension, a Pakistani minister publicly acknowledged that the country is bracing for a possible Indian response “within 24 to 36 hours.”

The April 22 terror strike in Pahalgam has drastically altered the security dynamics along the Indo-Pak border. The attack, which targeted unarmed tourists, triggered national outrage and a series of emergency meetings chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The government has since launched a multi-pronged strategy involving diplomatic outreach, intelligence assessments, and security escalations along sensitive border areas.

While India has maintained that it seeks peace along the borders, officials made it clear that continued provocations would not go unanswered. “India reserves the right to respond appropriately to any act of aggression,” said a senior official involved in border operations.

The DGMO-level communication is seen as a last-ditch effort to de-escalate hostilities through military diplomacy, but the situation remains highly volatile.
