Indian Diplomacy Pivotal in US Terror Designation of TRF, Says Jaishankar

India’s persistent diplomatic efforts have led to the United States officially designating The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy organization of the Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT). External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said this significant diplomatic achievement in the Lok Sabha on Monday, July 28, during a debate on “Operation Sindoor,” reaffirming India’s commitment to combating cross-border terrorism.

The designation of TRF as a global terrorist organization marks a crucial development in international counter-terrorism cooperation, particularly following the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack, for which TRF had twice claimed responsibility . Jaishankar criticized Pakistan for initially defending TRF despite its involvement in the attack, highlighting that even Pakistan’s foreign minister eventually accepted the US decision .

“Operation Sindoor,” launched by India in response to the Pahalgam attack, aimed to send a clear message to Pakistan and terrorist entities . Jaishankar revealed that only three nations, including Pakistan, opposed India’s actions, while the global community largely understood India’s right to self-defense . He emphasized that India would not engage in mediation with Pakistan or yield to any nuclear blackmail .

The External Affairs Minister also noted the strong international support India received after the Pahalgam attack. Quad countries (Australia, India, Japan, United States) , along with BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), condemned the terror attack, underscoring a growing global consensus against cross-border terrorism. This collective condemnation signifies the world’s recognition that Operation Sindoor is a legitimate fight against terrorism, urging solidarity with Indian forces to thwart further threats
